Bristol’s tireless multi-instrumentalist Memotone collects up the musical scraps of his highly-praised Tollard LP on The Trilogy Tapes for a seasonal Spring Clean on this new self-released cassette.
Some artists seem to have an infinite stream of musical ideas. As if somehow possessed by an indefatigable spirit of inspiration coupled with the technical ability to execute. More simply, we’ve never disliked anything we’ve heard from Memotone. This collection skirts around the themes present on the Tollard LP, giving an insight into the creation process of what already feels like a classic to us. Pieces of snug, slightly off-centre folk, wooly dream-like strings, burgundy-hued nighttime jazz and front porch blues all sharing the same DNA and instantly recognisable as Memotone. Far from a batch of half-baked ideas, any of these pieces could have easily made the cut on the album. But when everything you touch turns to gold, why not share it with people? Too good.
